Cane sugar manufacturing involves extraction and purification processes including, but not limited to, one or more of the following steps: milling, diffusion, clarification, phosphatation, carbonatation, carbon/resin decolorization via adsorption/desorption/ion exchange, and crystallization (12th Edition of the Cane Sugar Handbook, by Chen and Chou: 1st Edition of Handbook of Sugar Refining, by Chou).

Food grade cane sugar products include white sugar, brown sugar, fondant sugar, icing sugar, confectioners' sugar, invert sugar and various types of molasses both in liquid and dried form, etc.
